Do you have a new product idea on your brain?

Let’s construct it with 3D Printing

What is 3D printing?

3D printing is a process of making three dimensional solid objects from a digital file. A 3D printer works much like a plotter printer where the print head moves in a horizontal direction back in forth across a surface. The 3D print head lays down material instead of ink (found in a plotter) forming layers that are built one upon another. As the layers raise one on top of another, they form the solid.

How can INDUCOMP use 3D printing to develop my new product?

It all starts with making a 3D CAD (Computer Aided Design) of the object you want to create.

Once the object is approved, INDUCOMP will 3D print the object and create a solid prototype. This prototype can be used to simulate a completed product prior to making a plastic injection, sand cast or die cast molds.

We install all components in the 3D print protype. We can install brass inserts and standoffs so we can mount components to the 3D print protype. Mounting the components give a true test of parts placement, cable lengths, weight and general appearance of the product.

3D print advantages over traditional methods

  • No milling of plastic or metal blocks to produce the prototype
  • No secondary operations such as grinding and filling
  • Reduces labor cost
  • 3D print is low cost compared to traditional block milling
  • 3D prototypes can be produced in hours or days instead of weeks
  • 3D prototypes can be produced to look like actual product
  • Various types of materials can be used to produce the prototype
